LEAGUE NAME: PAROCHIAL FORMATIVE CHEERLEADING BASE RULES: TSSAA - NATIONAL FEDERATION OF STATE HIGH SCHOOL ASSOCIATIONS SEASON: AUGUST 1ST THROUGH THE LAST SATURDAY OF MAY. PRACTICE MAY NOT BEGIN BEFORE AUGUST 1ST. CAMPS, NOT TO EXCEED 5 DAYS, ARE ALLOWED IN THE MONTH OF JUNE. ELIGIBILITY 1. Team rosters must be submitted to the DAD before the first regular season game. Teams will not be allowed to cheer until rosters are submitted. 2. It is the coach’s responsibility to control fans and/or parents during the cheerleading competition. 3. Each player participating in Cheerleading must meet eligibility requirements set forth by the Diocesan Athletic Council. LEAGUE RULES AND REGULATIONS 4. Total weekly practice and game time shall not exceed a maximum of 6 hours. Any practice session shall not exceed 2 hours in length. A game shall count as 1 and 1/2 hours. The maximum number of game sessions and/or practice sessions shall not exceed 4 per week. 5. Each Cheerleader is to make positive contributions to good spectator reaction at an athletic contest and to encourage better relations between opposing supporters. 6. Each squad must have a responsible adult to oversee the cheerleaders and be present at all games and practices. With adult supervision, the cheerleaders should set-up and describe standards of conduct for the squad including appearance. 7. While cheering at any athletic event, cheerleaders should stay off the playing field or floor while the ball is in play. 8. While the ball is in play, cheerleaders should not obstruct the view of the spectators. Cheerleaders should face the playing surface at these times and be alert to the need to move out of the way of approaching players. 9. Cheerleaders may perform cheers on the playing field or floor only during halftimes. As a courtesy to each other, a representative from each of the opposing school’s cheerleading squads should confer to agree which squad will cheer first at half-time. 10. “Mascots” must meet approved school requirements. 11. Cheerleaders should give positive cheers. 12. Cheerleaders should act as representatives of the student body at all athletic contests and realize that they are in a position to control reactions of the crowd. 13. Cheerleaders should: - serve as hosts to visiting cheerleading squads. - be knowledgeable of the sport. 14. Agreed upon procedures should be used during cheering time. Select good cheers and signals and be discriminating about where and when to use them. For example, extend a hearty welcome to visitors, recognize plays of merit of the visiting team, signal for quiet, discourage attempts to distract or interfere with the progress of the game, and give recognition to players leaving the game. 15. Basketball cheerleaders may not stand directly behind the baskets. 16. Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishers in the 7th-8th grade cheerleading competition. 17. Pyramids are limited to two persons high. 18. Any cheerleader ejected from an athletic contest will be suspended from the next contest. |
